Kane had recently added another goal to his England record during the Three Lions' 5-0 victory over Ireland at Wembley on Sunday. While back in the UK, the chance arose to finally reveal the bronze statue, which had been in storage since its completion. As BBC Sport reported, the statue was commissioned a few years ago at a cost of £7,200 but had remained sidelined because the local council had not finalized a location for it.
Located in Walthamstow, The Peter May Centre is not far from both Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Kane's first club, Ridgeway Rovers.
Despite The Sun and other media outlets poking fun at the statue, Kane expressed his joy, stating to reporters, "It’s quite humbling to see it here now knowing there’s going to be loads of kids walking past."
He also took to his X account to share his thoughts on the unveiling.
A real proud moment for me to go back to where my life in football began and unveil a statue. I hope it helps inspire the next generation to work hard and believe in themselves. 🙌📸 pic.twitter.com/rbAs8RrZgS
