Transfer: Why I snubbed move to Man City, PSG – Bonucci

Former Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci has revealed that he declined offers from Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City because he wanted to remain close to his son in Italy.

In 2016, Manchester City was reportedly prepared to spend €100 million on Bonucci, but he chose to stay with Juventus, eventually moving to AC Milan a year later. Bonucci has now shared insights into those pivotal moments.

“I have always been honest and straightforward. This was true both in 2016 and when I joined Milan in 2017,” Bonucci told Sky Italia.

“I didn’t move to City in 2016 because Juventus would never sell me, and I was content at Juventus at that time. In 2017, Vincenzo Montella and Massimiliano Mirabelli approached me about becoming the captain of Milan. I didn’t want to play abroad and had already indicated my willingness to join Milan when PSG and Manchester City reached out.

“I made the move to Milan partly due to the well-known issues with Massimiliano Allegri. I wanted to stay close to home for my son, and I wasn’t keen on going abroad, especially given the uncertainties that come with such a transition.”
