In a recent episode of the ‘On The Grind’ podcast, the CEO of Mavin Records credited his profound passion for music as the main driving force behind his journey. Renowned for his multi-instrumental talents, Don Jazzy specifically highlighted his skill in playing the drums.
During the podcast, he shared a quirky anecdote about his commitment to music, revealing that he can drum in almost any situation, even while having sex.
“I jumped into production and never looked back. I started with percussion, then moved to jazz drums, followed by the bass guitar. At one point, I began learning the piano,” he explained. His love for music deepened when he moved to London, intensifying his desire to become a producer. “Originally, I enjoyed playing drums and bass guitar. I literally drum all the time. I even do it during sex. I can drum on someone’s buttocks if inspiration strikes,” Don Jazzy joked.
He also reminisced about living in the studio for two years with fellow producers Altims and Baby Fresh, fully immersing himself in his craft.
Don Jazzy’s production career began in the UK, where he collaborated with JJC and the 419 Squad. In 2004, he co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj, becoming the label's in-house producer. After the label's split, he established Mavin Records in 2012, where he continues to serve as CEO and lead producer.
His talents also gained international acclaim when he worked as an in-house producer for Kanye West’s GOOD Music label from 2011 to 2013.
