Alex Ikwechegh: Politicians lack respect for Nigerians – Mr Macaroni

Renowned social activist and skit creator, Debo Adebayo, popularly known as Mr. Macaroni, has expressed that Nigerian politicians show a lack of respect for the citizens. He believes this attitude stems from their history of evading accountability to the populace.

His comments follow a recent incident where Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, a member of the House of Representatives from Abia State, threatened to make an Uber driver disappear and expressed intentions to physically assault him and confine him in his generator house.

In a post on his X account, Mr. Macaroni criticized the disrespectful conduct of politicians, referencing the FCT Minister who allegedly questioned the intelligence of Nigerians during a public address.

Mr. Macaroni stated: “Nigerian politicians have little regard for the citizens because they have never been held accountable.

“Recently, the FCT Minister spoke to some Nigerians and asked, ‘Are you stupid, is it because I came down to talk to you?’

“You are a civil servant!

“What do you mean by, ‘Is it because I came down to talk to you?’ You are addressing the people who fund your salary! Any privileges that come with your position are a result of your service to the public! Your role is to work for the people, not the other way around. Arrogance has no place in public office!

“Nigeria is not a privately owned entity. Your responsibility is to serve! You do not hold a position of superiority.

“Therefore, the next time any politician speaks to the public, let them be reminded that they are addressing the people they serve, not their followers.”
