Edo guber: Mercy Johnson blasted for campaigning for Okpebholo

Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie is facing intense backlash on social media following her public endorsement of Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the upcoming gubernatorial election in Edo State.

In a video that has been widely circulated online, Johnson-Okojie is seen campaigning for Okpebholo at a rally, urging the crowd to support the APC candidate. During her speech, she highlighted the pressing need for change in Edo State, citing deficiencies in essential services such as electricity, water, healthcare, and security.

"Are you not tired? No light, water, healthcare, security, and good roads. If you are willing to vote for Senator Monday, raise your hand. So when you get to that polling station early in the morning, vote for Monday, vote for APC, vote for the broom," she said.

The video has sparked significant criticism on social media, with many accusing her of endorsing the ruling party amid widespread economic challenges facing the country.

Okpebholo is competing against Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party (LP), among others, in the September 21 election.
