Phyna faults inclusion of embattled Miss SA finalist, Chidinma in Miss Universe Nigeria pageant

Controversial reality TV star Josephine Ijeoma Otabor, known as Phyna, has criticized the inclusion of Chidimma Vanessa Onwe Adetshina, a model of Nigerian and Mozambican descent, in the Miss Universe Nigeria 2024 beauty pageant. Adetshina had previously withdrawn from the Miss South Africa 2024 contest due to scrutiny over her nationality.

According to HENRYSHUSTLE, Adetshina was invited to join the Miss Universe Nigeria pageant after being forced to withdraw from the Miss SA contest, despite being a Top 11 Finalist. In a video shared by the organizers on Wednesday, Adetshina announced her decision to compete in the Nigerian beauty contest.

Responding on her X handle, Phyna expressed concern that Adetshina’s participation could reduce the chances for "typical Nigerian queens" in the pageant and suggested that Adetshina take a break from pageantry.

Phyna wrote: "Just thinking out loud oh. I’m in support of Chidima o, but this one she now wants to rep us like this…. What will now happen to our own typical Nigerian Queens that have been preparing for it too? Omo I for advise her to leave pageant first or for this year… then go next tym.”

Phyna's post sparked backlash, with many criticizing her perspective.
