The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has stated that the establishment of additional registration points for prospective 2024 Direct Entry (DE) candidates was largely unnecessary due to the low turnout of candidates.
Initially, JAMB had set up extra registration points beyond the Professional Registration Centres (PRCs) in Lagos, Kwara, Osun, and Ogun States to cater to the needs of the 2024 Direct Entry candidates.
However, according to a statement released by Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the spokesperson for JAMB, on Wednesday, the turnout at these additional registration centres was minimal. Despite having the capacity to handle over 100 registrations daily, some centres, such as JKK Lagos, JAMB PRC Ikoyi, and Ogba in Ikeja, Lagos, reported fewer than ten candidates per day.
Despite the low turnout, JAMB encouraged any remaining eligible candidates to take advantage of the opportunity to register, emphasizing that no further extensions would be granted. The Board also announced that the extra registration points would remain open until the conclusion of the exercise on Monday, June 17, 2024, with no appeals for additional time to be entertained.
Furthermore, candidates scheduled for the 2024 Supplementary UTME were informed that the exams would now be conducted on both Friday, June 21, and Saturday, June 22, 2024.
