‘Afrobeats now as big as Hip Hop, R&B’ – Singer Fireboy

 

Nigerian artist Fireboy DML recently asserted that Afrobeats has attained a stature equivalent to that of Hip-hop and R&B. During a podcast conversation with Noisey, the acclaimed singer of the hit track "Peru" elaborated on how Afrobeats transcends being merely a musical genre, describing it as a rich cultural phenomenon with a profound historical significance.

Fireboy emphasized the distinctiveness of his approach to Afrobeats, stating, "I always emphasize the importance of sincerity in songwriting. It doesn't necessarily have to be your personal narrative; it could be someone else's. What truly matters is authenticity. When you release a song that's genuine, it resonates with someone out there, and that's what counts."

Highlighting his contribution to the genre, he remarked, "In my rendition of Afrobeats, I infuse a deliberate focus on songwriting sensibilities.
