Why Soyinka should no longer be taken seriously – Charly Boy

Maverick singer Charly Boy has advised Nigerians not to take Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka seriously. He suggested that Soyinka, who is about to turn 90, might be experiencing brain deterioration due to aging. This, Charly Boy claimed, could explain some of Soyinka’s recent rhetoric and actions.

The 73-year-old singer expressed concern that Soyinka’s family and close friends are unable to protect him from being exploited by desperate politicians who are taking advantage of his “medical situation.”

On Instagram, Charly Boy wrote: “Prof. Wole Soyinka is over 80 years old, nearing 90. At his age, some brain deterioration is not unexpected. His recent rhetoric and actions suggest a deteriorating brain condition, and he shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

“What we should be worried about, as well-meaning Nigerians, is how his family and close friends can’t fend off agents of desperate politicians who are exploiting his medical situation to their advantage, regardless of the impact on the once-respected Nobel laureate.”
