Nollywood actor Yul Edochie has called on filmmakers in Nigeria to stop creating movies that portray Nigerians as clowns and uncivilized when they travel abroad.
He pointed out that such storylines damage the country's image.
Instead, he urged producers to create stories where Nigerians travel abroad, offer traditional solutions to problems, and become leaders.
On his Instagram page, Edochie wrote: “I wish our producers would stop making films where Nigerians travel abroad and act foolishly. We sell ourselves short with such storylines.
“White people will never make a movie where a white man appears foolish on African soil. Instead, they’ll portray the white man as smarter than all the Africans in the movie.
“It’s intentional. They use movies to portray themselves as superheroes, while we use ours to undermine ourselves.
“Let’s make movies where a Nigerian goes abroad and becomes the focal point for white people.
“They walk with pride and dignity, always wearing Nigerian attire. They teach white people beautiful things they never knew about us, offer traditional solutions to problems, and become leaders there.
“Let’s portray ourselves as superheroes too.”
