Renowned record producer Olumide Ogunade, commonly known as ID Cabasa, has weighed in on the ongoing conflict between emerging artists and industry veterans in the Nigerian music scene.
Recalling the recent exchange between veteran singer Eedris Abdulkareem and Burna Boy, where Abdulkareem criticized Burna Boy's assertion that no Nigerian artist paved the way for him, the situation escalated into a social media frenzy. Fast-rising rapper OdumoduBlvck and other new artists sided with Burna Boy, while Jaywon and some established veterans supported Abdulkareem.
Addressing the issue on the latest episode of the 'Afrobeats Podcast,' ID Cabasa emphasized the need for mutual respect and understanding between new generation artists and industry veterans to foster peace within the Nigerian music community.
Cabasa stressed the importance of new artists showing respect to the pioneers of the industry while urging veterans to exhibit greater integrity. He remarked, "The newcomers need to show reverence to the OGs. Conversely, the OGs need to uphold their integrity. Viewing oneself as in competition with the newer generation compromises one's integrity."
The producer urged music legends to embrace a supportive stance towards young talents rather than adopting overly critical attitudes towards them.
