Senate President Godswill Akpabio has advised renowned Afrobeat singer Davido to steer clear of politics.
Akpabio offered this caution during Davido's courtesy visit in Abuja on Monday.
Welcoming Davido, Akpabio expressed his pleasure and praised the musician for bringing pride to the country.
“For me and for President Bola Tinubu's government, it’s an inclusive administration. You must have noticed that we move as one across party lines in my various outings.
“Even though your administration is under the PDP, what unites us all is the interest of this country, which has shown you immense love.
“With a population of over 240 million, Nigeria stands unmatched in Africa. So, I urge you to continue being a great ambassador for our country. Keep excelling in the entertainment industry and don’t let anyone drag you into politics.”
“For us in the political arena, we value talents. We will do everything possible to support the entertainment industry and talented individuals like you. All we need is patience and prayers for our success,” Akpabio stated.
Davido then informed the Senate President about the purpose of his visit.
“As for me, I’m doing my part to assist society. I have a foundation through which I donate N300 to N400 million to orphanages annually. Additionally, I have a new album coming out in June or July of this year. I just want to thank you for everything you have been doing for us,” the singer said.
Davido was accompanied by two of his cousins, Tunji Adeleke, the son of his late uncle Senator Isiaka Adeleke, and Folasade Adeleke, the daughter of the Osun State Governor.
