Music producer Dr. Roy has clarified that gospel artist Mercy Chinwo was unaware of the unfair treatment he faced from the former record label boss they both collaborated with.
In an interview on The Honest Bunch Podcast on Monday, hosted by on-air-personality Nedu Ani and others, Dr. Roy, who was previously associated with Eezee Concept Records owned by Ezekiel ThankGod, also known as EeZee Tee, accused the label boss of mistreatment.
Dr. Roy mentioned that despite producing hit tracks like 'Excess Love' for Mercy Chinwo, who signed with the label approximately seven years ago, EeZee Tee withheld his rightful earnings.
"At the beginning, Mercy was unaware of the situation," Dr. Roy explained.
"I can't say for certain why Mercy left, but I wouldn't be surprised if she faced similar treatment to mine.
"For Mercy's sake, I didn't disclose the mistreatment to her because I'm unsure how EeZee Tee portrayed me to her."
Dr. Roy recounted an instance where someone close to him informed Mercy of his father's passing. Mercy then reached out to him, offering financial assistance and support for his family, expressing her unawareness of his father's illness or the challenges he faced under EeZee Tee's management.
The music producer also posted a video on his Instagram to clarify his statements from the podcast.
"I have immense respect for Mercy's talent and character. My comments were directed towards the record label owner I was associated with. Mercy Chinwo assisted me during my father's stroke and after his passing," he affirmed.
Dr. Roy refuted claims that Mercy Chinwo had ever declined to help him.
