‘I am a man’ – Bobrisky admits in court, to serve jail term in Ikoyi Prison

Before being sentenced to prison, the controversial social media figure and cross-dresser, Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye, famously referred to as Bobrisky, acknowledged his male identity.

Bobrisky, who was found guilty of misusing the Nigerian currency, the Naira, received a six-month prison term without the possibility of a fine.

Prior to the pronouncement of the sentence, the Judge inquired about Bobrisky's gender, to which he promptly responded, "I am a man."

He was subsequently detained to commence his prison sentence at the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, as the judge ruled that the term would begin on March 24, 2024, the day of his apprehension.

Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos, who delivered the verdict, emphasized the importance of discouraging others from engaging in similar acts of Naira abuse and mutilation.

Recall that Bobrisky was found guilty on April 5 after admitting to a four-count charge of Naira abuse filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The charges included incidents where Bobrisky was alleged to have tampered with N400,000 at Imax Circle Mall in Jakande, Lekki; N50,000 at Aja Junction in Ikorodu; N20,000 at White Steve Event Hall in Ikeja; and an additional N20,000 at an event hall in Oniru, Victoria Island, spanning from 2022 to 2023.
