Burna Boy, the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist whose real name is Damini Ogulu, has been named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People of 2024.
Angelique Kidjo, the renowned singer from Benin, penned Ogulu's tribute on Time's website, highlighting his instrumental role in fostering the global recognition of African music.
Kidjo stated, "Burna Boy has transformed that vision [acceptance of African music] into a global reality. His music taps into the deep reservoir of Nigerian folk traditions, carrying forward the legacy ignited by Fela Kuti. He is forging history in the making."
